At home, Go South Adventures actively engages in reducing our carbon footprint by supporting conservation technologies,
recycling, strategic office location, paperless communications and carbon offset participation. We passionately believe that these small,
individual steps, taken collectively, can have huge positive effects for all of us.
Conservation Technologies
Wind Power - GSA purchases 100% of it's electrical power from new, renewable wind energy via Seattle City Light's -
Green Up Program which enables customers to invest in new renewable
resources like the
Stateline Wind Project in Eastern Washington, and other energy projects.
Compact Fluorescent Bulbs - highly efficent and with the same output as regular light bulbs,
compact fluorescent light bulbs are used exclusively throughout the office to increase energy savings.
Recycling (Reduce & Reuse)
Reducing the Waste Stream - all office paper waste, glass and metal is recycled via the City of Seattle
Recycling Program
Recycled Paper - GSA purchases only post consumer recycled paper products for our office and mailings.
Environmentally Strategic Location
Walking & Biking - in 2001 our Go South Adventures office was strategically chosen to be located in the established
walking and biking community of Ballard. Within a matter of blocks, our office is close to business services
(banks, office supplies, copy center) and employee conveniences (shopping, cafes, restaurants, parks…).
"GSA's Big Bike Cruiser" - The bike supplies the style, we supply the power
(plus it's fun to ride...everyone wants to run errands).
Internet and Email
Content, Pictures, and Communications - We embrace the internet as our preferred method of client contact and
information delivery. With our Go South Adventures website, we are able to provide clients colorufull, informative
content and beautifull pictures. Email has revolutionized the ability to communicate instantly and respond to
clients requests and questions. Less paper advertising and correspondence helps preserves more trees and
natural resources.
COMMITMENT ABROAD
Traveling Abroad
Sustainable Tourism - We want your adventure to be a mutually beneficial experience for you and the people and places you come in contact
with. We emphasize using local accommodations, transportation and services whenever possible. It has been
our experience that economies derived from localized, sustainable tourism encourage cultural preservation and
ecological conservation.
Carbon Offset Programs
Carbon Offset Programs - Many programs are available to help you calculate your carbon contribution from
air travel, driving your car
and energy consumption at home. The carbon amount is assigned a dollar value, which you can pay to support
carbon reduction programs like renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation projects. Go South Adventures
is a proud participant of
CarbonFund.org program- which gives us, and our passengers, the ability to offset our air travel to
our fascinating destinations. CarbonFund.org, their motto is: "Reduce what you can. Offset what you can't".
Pack it in - Pack it out
Camping Classic - While abroad on our trekking/camping adventures, we follow the time honored rule of
"Pack it in - pack it out." This is to insure that our refuse is properly disposed of and
all we leave behind are footprints. We also camp at only at officially designated areas or campsites.
